Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan were spotted in Kent as filming gets underway for the fifth instalment of The Trip.

Last week, staff at HatHats Coffee in Reculver near Herne Bay were up at the crack of dawn to serve cast and crew.

It comes as the duo embark on The Trip to the Northern Lights, more than five years after the last series of the multi-award-winning Sky original comedy from director Michael Winterbottom took the pair to Greece.

HatHats' part-time supervisor and law student, Amelia Hurst, said: "They were both lovely and it was great to be a part of the day.

"I can't wait to see the finished show when it gets released."

Head of brand and marketing, Kara Davies, commented: "We have had lots of film crews use our space at Reculver over the years.

"A few years ago, there was a lot of excitement when Disney used the site to test shoot for a film.

"It was great to open our store up early and give them and the crew our freshly roasted coffee, baked pastries and crepes throughout the day."

According to Sky, the new six-part series will see the pair trade Mediterranean sunshine for Northern Europe.

"What follows is a gloriously daft and delicious journey in search of fine food, wry conversation and a glimpse of the elusive Northern Lights," the blurb says.

Although the series is due to be set in Scandinavia, some Kent residents have been lucky enough to see the dazzling natural phenomenon, also known as the aurora borealis, from Reculver Towers last year.

Sky adds that the next series will see the pair travel from sculptural Swedish Hotels to remote Norwegian fishing huts, "delivering their trademark blend of wit, rivalry and playful introspection".

"Along the way, they reflect on ageing, ambition, family and fame - mostly through the lens they know best, themselves.

"Equal parts sitcom, travelogue and midlife reckoning, The Trip to the Northern Lights is Coogan and Brydon at their bickering, brilliant best."

Speaking to Sky, Steve Coogan said: "I'm delighted that Michael Winterbottom has managed to persuade me at the age of 59 to join Rob, aged 60, to squeeze the last few drops of comedy from a bottle that we both thought was pretty much empty."

Rob Brydon added: "I'm so pleased to be heading out on a Trip once again, this time to beautiful Scandinavia and how lovely to do it while Steve Coogan, Michael Winterbottom and I still have most of our faculties."

The Trip to the Northern Lights will commence shooting later this year in Scandinavia.
