The League Of Gentlemen reunite in radio play

The BBC has announced that The League Of Gentlemen have reunited for Radio 4.

The troupe - writer/performers Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, plus writer Jeremy Dyson - are best known for their eponymous, surrealist sitcom-sketch hybrid, which ran for three series on BBC Two from 1999 and was recently restored for a Blu-ray release.

Now they have come together for a one-off comedy penned by Dyson, High Cockalorum, which will air in the Afternoon Drama slot - 2:15pm - on Thursday 18th September.

Described as the story of a "touching, funny and unlikely encounter", it tells of Hollywood legend James Mason's meeting "a humble lad from Leeds" in 1978.

The BBC explain: "Celebrating Bradford City of Culture and commissioned as part of BBC Contains Strong Language Festival, Bradford based writer Jeremy Dyson's original comedy drama set in West Yorkshire in 1978 is inspired by a true story.

"High Cockalorum tells of a touching, funny and unlikely encounter between a Hollywood superstar and a humble lad from Leeds thrown together by circumstance - a meditation on fame, success and what ultimately matters."
